Jimmy Page has again hinted in a new interview at the possibility of more new music from him.
The Led Zeppelin guitarist reportedly turned down an offer to contribute to guitarist last year turned down an opportunity to collaborate on Ozzy Osbourne's upcoming album. While Ozzy's team was led to believe the reason was that Page "didn't play much anymore," Page himself hinted to Classic Rock magazine that he is, in fact, quite busy.
"There's various things I'm working towards," he said. "It's not just one thing, it's multiple things, and I don't want to even give a hint, because if you do ... you give a one-sentence sound bite, and then if it doesn't materialize, it's like, 'Why didn't you do a solo album?' So I don't want to say what it is that I've got planned because I don't want to give people the chance to misinterpret it."
Page's use of the term "solo album" stands out. He might have been referring to prior reports on his music-related activities or perhaps the folly of his own over-anxious statements to the press than to an actual solo album he's making.
Page has spoken publicly about his ambitions to make new music for years, but nothing has materialized as he's been focused on projects related to Led Zeppelin's legacy.
Before this latest interview, the guitarist hasn't spoken publicly since the premiere of the Becoming Led Zeppelin documentary film last September. The film was met with positive reviews, but a worldwide release date has yet to be announced.
In December of 2020, Page told Total Guitar that he had been playing guitar every day and that he hoped to get back onstage when the lockdowns were lifted for a "mythical live show."
He added, however, that he had no interest in collaborating remotely, saying his attraction to music had always surrounded the idea of "playing together."
Whitesnake singer and former Page collaborator David Coverdale said early last year that he had been after Page about reviving their collaboration. He said Page's lack of new music "breaks my heart, 'cause he's such a f---ing valuable musician."
