Judas Priest guitarist Ritchie Faulkner revealed in a new interview that the band has begun recording the follow-up to its lauded 2018 album Firepower.

Faulkner tells the Metal From the Inside podcast that the band began writing the new album before the pandemic. During the shutdowns, the members did what they could from their homes. Slowly but surely, the new songs came together.

While the album is very much in progress, the band believes it will have time this year to complete it.

"We don't have a release date. It's not finished," Faulkner said. "We've got the songs, but we've gotta record it. We've got drums down. I don't know if that's even been said yet. So we're gonna try and built it up as we move through this touring cycle."

The band will have some time off from the middle of April through early-June, but Faulkner indicated there is no pressure to deliver a final product to the record label.

"As Rob [Halford] always says, 'It'll be finished when it's finished,'" Faulkner continued. "At this point in [Judas Priest's] career, there's no point in rushing anything, especially when we've waiting this long through the pandemic to start doing it. It'll be done when it's done. But there will be another Priest record. We've got some great songs."

In previous interviews, both Faulkner and Halford have agreed that the new album is a more dynamic take on the band's classic sounds; Judas Priest doesn't like to repeat itself.
