'No One Needs Another Elton John Record' Right Now, Says Elton John

With his 'Farewell, Yellow Brick Road' on hold indefinitely, Sir Elton John has no plans to write or record any new music with his time off.

John's longtime collaborator and lyricist, Bernie Taupin, told Rolling Stone in an interview published in early-November that he's been "continually" encouraging the singer and composer to work on any of more than a dozen lyrical ideas he's passed along.

But the Rocketman has resisted. In a new conversation with Record Collector, John explained that he's making the most of his respective lockdown; he's busy at home and so far his activities haven't included songwriting.

"I have no idea what the f--k I'm going to do next, and that feels great," he said of his immediate future. "I just don't think this is a time for me to think about recording. I'm a dad, and I love being a dad. I will get in the mood to record again — I'll get in the mood to write. ...But no one needs another Elton John record out at the moment."

John and Taupin have over 30 studio albums together.

While the pianist John has never expressed plans to stop making music for good, in 2018, when he announced his farewell tour, he cited his growing family as the driving force behind him considering life after touring.

'Farewell, Yellow Brick Road' was initially scheduled to wrap up in 2021, but the final dates have since been pushed to 2023 due to the pandemic.
