Personality Bio

I was born in Philly- my Dad raised me on Eagles football. In fact, the first time I ever saw people getting mooned was at an Eagles game. It was the fans mooning the team !!   I am now, and have been for many years, a Jersey girl. I've lived all over New Jersey: Montclair; Glen Ridge; Brick, Ringwood and just recently relocated to Monmouth County- Neptune City where I am starting my new life on the Shark River-good for kayaking. Best of all, I can bike to my fave beach: Avon-By-The_Sea . Look for the bikini'ed woman in goggles- mad swimming between the jetties  and say "hi" when I  get out! I have 3 kids- one of each. More on that, at a later time.

My favorite activities: Swimming in the ocean or lake; gyming;  hiking;  biking and gardening- though I'm still learning the ropes.
My favorite meal :  Just give me raw oysters  from the Grand Central Oyster Bar & restaurant (click here) and a nice New Zealand  white wine and I'm in heaven. Maybe some good dark chocolate to top it off.
The best meal I make:  I love to cook- but I'm told Thanksgiving is my best. Especially my Sweet Potato Souffle. Thank you Pink Tea Cup in the Village  and Liz Smith for the recipe. And thank you Goffle Turkey Farm for the freshest bird ever.(click here)
My favorite Reporting Assignment: Billy Joel's first concert ever in Moscow. The Russian soldiers ended up dancing with us in the aisles. "The Bridge" tour  lived up to its name.
My Favorite Sports Teams: Giants, Devils & the Red Bulls.
Favorite movie: "West Side Story"
My worst habit: I'm a late braker when it comes to driving. It's so much fun to see my passenger hit the imaginary brake!
If I Had Bill Gates' Gazillions: I'd buy Asbury Park and turn it back into the pride of the Jersey shore. And now that I live miles and change away- I'm one step closer!
My Favorite Joke: How a woman's body is like the state of New Jersey... her breasts are like Mount Holly, her butt is Freehold...and down there- no- not Cherry Hill- that's Eatontown.
My favorite artists: R.E.M.; Dire Straits; Joe Jackson; the late Elliot Smith; Midnight Oil.
My favorite guitarists: Mark Knopfler; Matt Daniel. (click here)

shelli's coffee cake recipe- by popular demand
Tuesday 12-11-2007 2:33am ET
I have to admit- this came from the Food Network and I changed it a bit:

Streusel:
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
a half teaspoon cinnamon

cake:
2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda- sifted in the the flour
1/2 t salt- again sifted w/flour
1/2 teas. nutmeg
big pinch mace
3/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 large eggs at room temp
1 cup sour cream- use light and combine with
1 1/2 teas. vanilla extract

make streusel by mixing all ingredients together. set aside.

preheat oven to 350.

i use 6 inch square pain - about 3 -4inches deep

cream butter and sugar on medium til light and fluffy
add eggs - one at a time - again til fluffy.
then put mixer on stir and alternate flour mixture with sour cream (which has been combined with vanilla first. add both in 3 parts til just combined

pam up pan. spread half the batter in pan and sprinkle with  half the streusel. put in second half of bater and top with rest of streusel. bake 1 hour and ten minutes  til golden brown.  make sure inserted tooth pick in center comes out clean.
cool about ten minutes. don't refrigerate-  when cool and not totally devoured- make sure you put tin foil tightly around top of pan to keep cake fresh. it's the  moistest coffee cake you'll ever have!!!

the intern party
Monday 07-23-2007 8:17am ET
Everyone was fashionably late to my intern party Saturday- even my own daughter who lives with me! But there's fashionably late and  so late all the food's gone. Tony showed up at 3 for a party that started at noon. He says he had  to go from Astoria to Brooklyn to pick up his car..so.

Some other highlights: all the recipes came form Food Network recipies (yummo!) except for Big E's  burgers- though I just could not bring myself to add butter- though we did brush 'em with olive oil . Everyone loved my guac.

John had Revi on his kayak built for one and she capsized him. I capsized Eddie as I ended my swim- and Eddie's a BIG man.  Joe refused  to come near me & Eddie to avoid us dumping him from  his kayak and almost hit  a neighbor and his young son  as he made his getway. Wuss!

Edgar proved I'm no liar and killed a sizable mouse in front of everyone- then proceeded  to eat half the mouse- leaving the bottom half. Guess he's not an ass-man.

Joe and Tony stayed til 9- for round 2 of the food from Ringwood pizza. Everyone cleaned me out of burgers.

Maybe next year- Jim'll show up. Don't worry- he had a good excuse.
