So, it's 48 hours out from the Jets loss to Peyton and the Colts and I know how much it still stings! I got back home Sunday night and there were still a few of my friends and family who bleed green still hanging out looking like a 5 year old who had their first bicycle stolen. I didn't bother calling any of my other friends on Sunday night, I waited to reach out yesterday. You know between the hangover effect and yesterday's surprise monsoon, I was worried a few folks might have to be talked down off a ledge!
Actually, I think by virtue of the Jets run being so unexpected and feeling like it was only house money on the line, everyone took it pretty well. I think that most Jets fans and even the Jets themselves have bought into the "rookie head coach, rookie QB, young team that will be back many times over the next several years" train of thought.
Two points of a personal sort here: One: It was sort of cool having a collection of friends and family hang out our house to watch the games! Now I know that sounds a bit strange since my house is totally BIG BLUE country. Never the less, having this new projector gizmo for the games is just outrageous and I highly recommend one when the old budget can pull it off! I will always remember this season and smile thinking of me being on the air and my house being filled with freaking out Jets fans gathered around in my house watching the games on the living room wall.
Personal point #2: Rex might want to consider shutting his pie hole every once in a while. It was clear to me watching Peyton's post game comments that they clearly didn't appreciate the barking from Jets land the week before the AFC Championship game and surly used it as motivation. To which I'll add I wasn't impressed with his "the Jets are the #1 team in town now" routine from yesterday's exit interviews. Nor was I impressed with his naming of the new stadium Jets Stadium. Factually speaking, it will be neither this go round. I felt all that good will I've had the past few weeks for my friends and family who are Jets fans to win and get the monkey off their back draining rapidly! I mean real rapidly! You know, win a Super Bowl or 2 before you get this pompous could you?
We'll see how it all pans out. 2 weeks until the big game, 3 months until the draft, 6 months until training camps and the first look at our teams new joint venture, Beer Nuts Stadium! That's what I've been calling it until someone picks up the tab on the rights.
