Are you smelling what I am smelling?  Put your snout into the wind and sniff!  This run the Jets are on is so reminiscent of Big Blue's run in 2007!

It isn't that easy for me but I am putting aside what feels like ancient and almost tribal like feelings of animosity and rooting for the Jets to do their thing here and get to the Super Bowl.  Why?  Why would a man who's loyalties to Big Blue run so deep and who's familial seats to the Giants (until the term PSL came in to our collective lexicon) ran back into the 50's lend a helping hand?  It's simple really:  I just know too many people in my life who I'm really close to that have had too much misery in their lives caused by their football team!

Take a guy like our own Big E!  He's a great a fan of the game and of his team as anyone out there!  My buddy John Nitti PLAYED for the Jets back in the 80's and just missed going to the big show himself on a horrible day in the mud in Miami.  I never mention A.J. Duhey around him even all these years later.  There's my buddy Rob Pershinsky who I ate paste with in kindergarten at Fork Lane Elementary School in Hicksville who has been a life long fan of Green and White.  (The very same Fork Lane that Billy Joel attended btw....) Rob still wears his Ken O'Brien jersey on Sunday's......the one I bought for him from Jerry Cosby's in like 1981 or so.  I got a list a mile long of people in my life who have suffered with their team and I'd just like to see them have their day.

NOW.......let's be very clear here!  I am NOT wearing any Jets propaganda!  I do NOT have a Gastinau jersey on!  Hell I LOVE Marty Lyons and am proud to have made sure that Charity Begins At Home has helped his cause through the years. (and by the way the foundation had a tough year so if you're so inclined don't forget to write them a check if you can!)  But I"m not wearing a Marty Lyons jersey either!

Recently we purchased this projector contraption that allows you to project the cable TV on to a screen or wall and I have to tell you that this is NOT the projection crap we grew to hate in the 1970's when it first came about.  It's sharp as hell and clear as can be and there are your favorite players running around like madmen on your wall!  It's very cool and so ironically, our house has become a home for many of the Jets fans in our life on game days!  Beginning with the game in Indy, and the final game of the season on that fateful Sunday night against the Bengals and now into the playoffs, they are HERE!  In my House!  Where my wife sleeps and my children play!  (Al Pacino as Michael Corleone after he's attacked in Godfather 2).

This thing has become so strange I have to laugh.  A guy who bleeds true Big Blue rooting for the Jets so his friends can finally be at peace and be happy with their team.  In my house with their green and white propaganda, screaming for their guys, while I'm in the Q studios doing my thing!  God bless my wife who's been hosting this madness and doing much of the work!  My friends are very cool though pitching in with the coldies and tasty football snacky cakes!

So here we are on the eve of the Jets taking their spot in the AFC Championship game for the first time in eleven years!  There are so many aspects of this run that strangely remind me of my own team's run two years ago.

First and foremost, both teams were not the sort of teams that were inspiring that "whoo hoo" sort of confidence in their fans that made you say "we're going to The Super Bowl!"  Let's be honest here, the Giants had some horrible games late in the season that year that  had you shaking your head.  Eli was awful against the Vikings at home late in the season and the D pulled out a victory in December up in Buffalo.  Sound familiar to you?  The Jets had looked perfectly awful against the Falcons at HOME for f's sake!  With everything to play for and they still lost!

The other thing here is that this whole enchilada has to be done on the road as a wildcard team!  I am having that same feeling that I had 2 years ago with the Giants run:  Tampa Bay and their NFC best D?  Who cares!  Dallas in Dallas with the Anti-Christ sitting and watching?  No problem!  Green Bay in "the frozen tundra" with "You know I'll never do you wrong Mary" Brett Favre?  Set em up and knock em down!

The Jets are on that kind of roll now.  I must confess that I want to keep this thing going!  I am having fun knowing that my friends who are such huge and loyal Jets fans can come over and bring the kids and everyone is hanging out and watching the game projected on the wall.  The Jets are the road warriors this time and have another tough game in Indy on Sunday.  We'll see what happens but I must admit I am digging the whole thing so far, but I DO have my Giants Troy Archer jersey on for the ride!  As the boys in Aerosmith said "Draw The Line!"  But I'm in for the ride.  I might need a cootie shot early in February but what the hell........let's fill the coolers up and set the projector up and go for a ride!
