NYC Lawmakers Want A Crackdown On Kids’ Meals
Posted Wednesday, August 20th 2014 @ 6am

A New York City official wants to set stricter standards for kids’ meals.

The Daily News reports legislation would ban fast food establishments from offering free toys if meals don’t meet certain nutritional standards.  If the meal has more than 500 calories or more than 600 mg of sodium, toys and other incentives would be banned.

“Throughout the fast food industry, you’re seeing that toys are being linked to meals,” said Councilman Ben Kallos, who is introducing the legislation today. “And as a result, we have a very high obesity rate.”

Kallos also wants meals to contain a half cup of fruit, vegetables or a serving of whole grain products.
