A-Rod Expected to be Suspended by MLB This Week

MLB's decision on the fate of Alex Rodriguez and 8 other MLB players reportedly will be announced sometime this week, according to the New York Daily News. Most of the players will likely face 50 game suspensions, but A-Rod may not be so lucky.

The Daily News reports that MLB officials informed the Players Association in a Manhattan meeting on Tuesday that they plan to suspend nine players who allegedly obtained performance enhancing drugs from the Miami based Biogenesis clinic. MLB has reportedly gathered hundreds of emails, text messages and evidence that prove the Yankees slugger used banned substances in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

Rodriguez also faces a much harsher punishment than the 8 other players because MLB reportedly also has evidence that A-Rod tried to interfere in the league's investigation. According to various reports, A-Rod will likely appeal his suspension, which could cause a lengthy battle between the Yankees third baseman and MLB.

If A-Rod appeals the suspension, the Daily News reports that MLB commissioner Bud Selig could invoke a part of the collective bargaining agreement meant to preserve the integrity of the game, which would make A-Rod’s suspension effective immediately.

A-Rod is currently on a rehab assignment and is scheduled to play in a simulated game on Thursday. A-Rod could hypothetically return to the Yankees on Friday, but it seems that the suspension decision will come before then. There is a good chance A-Rod may never play another game in the majors.
