9/11 Anniversary Commemoration: NYC Honors Victims
Posted Wednesday, September 11th 2013 @ 7am

Today marks the 12 year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. NYC will host a special commemoration at the National September 11th Memorial, honoring the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The commemoration begins at 8:39am as loved ones will recite the names of 9/11 victims as well as the 1993 world trade center bombing victims, according to the Associated Press. According to NYC.gov, the ceremony will be paused at six moments. Two pauses will be in observance of when the WTC buildings were hit, twice in observance of when each tower fell, once in observance of when the Pentagon was hit, and once in observance of when Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, PA.

According to the AP, Governor Andrew Cuomo, Billy Joel, and firefighters will participate in a tribute motorcycle ride to Ground Zero before the commemoration. The "Tribute in Light" will take place Wednesday evening as a tribute to those who were lost on 9/11, starting at 7:11pm and fading away at 6:34am Thursday morning.

The AP reports that no politicians will be speaking at the 9/11 commemoration.
